If you have a swim spa or exercise pool in your home, you’re one of the lucky ones who can enjoy the benefits it has to offer. Swim spa workouts can be a fantastic way to combine the benefits of swimming with the convenience of a compact spa. If you have any medical conditions then, before you start exercising, it’s a good idea to check with your doctor about what you’re allowed to do and what you should avoid. If nothing else, you can always use these effective exercises to get the perfect workout:
- Interval Training: Alternate between periods of high-intensity swimming and rest or lower-intensity swimming. For example, swim as fast as you can for one minute, then swim slowly or float for one minute to recover. Repeat for several rounds. This workout plan is extremely effective at building muscle and maintain fast-twitch muscle fibers for quick burst acitivity!
- Endurance or Long Distance Swimming: Set a distance goal and swim continuously until you reach it. This could also be swimming for a long period of time without stopping. This will give your whole body a beautiful tone!
- Resistance Training: Use resistance bands or attach yourself to a stationary swimming pole (if your swim spa has one) to swim against resistance. For even greater resistance turn on the swim jets when doing this exercise. This strengthens your muscles and improves your swimming technique. Simple but great exercise!
- Leg Workouts: Focus on lower body strength by doing exercises like leg kicks, flutter kicks, or scissor kicks while holding onto the edge of the swim spa or handrail.
- Upper Body Workouts: Work on your upper body strength by doing exercises like arm pulls, chest presses against the resistance of the water, or using paddles for added resistance.
- Core Exercises: Engage your core muscles by doing exercises like flutter kicks while holding a plank position in the water, or by doing bicycle kicks. It looks hard, but the results are spectacular!
- Cool Down and Stretch: Finish your workout with some gentle swimming or floating to cool down, followed by stretching to improve flexibility and prevent muscle soreness. Don’t skip this step either, finishing a workout with stretching is very important, even if it’s in the water!
Remember to tailor the intensity and duration of your swim spa workouts to your fitness level and goals and try not to overdo it. Start small, then increase the pace and the number of exercises day by day. This will strengthen your endurance and give you a beautiful physique! Wellis Swimspa’s will help you achieve your dream shape by mid-summer! You can also train in them in winter thanks to their heated water.
