Balboa Water Group (BWG) has recently released a statement that there is a flaw in their wireless security software enabling the system to be hacked by cyber criminals. The flaw affects all hot tubs utilizing balboas wireless WiFi technology and smartphone applications allowing remote monitoring of the hot tub. The exact method of breaching the system has not be revealed, however, it is believed to originate from the GPS software. Balboa may not be the only “connected hot tub” to face this problem as other manufacturers using “smart” applications may face similar concerns.
BWG has promised a fix shortly after the new year (February).
This particular issue is just a reminder that cyber security is a concerns no matter what the product or service…..even a hot tub that’s connected to the internet.
